Who Do You See When You Read Breathless?

Hi everyone,

I know I've promised you another sneak peek at Wanderlust, which I will provide later this week. In the meantime, I would love to know who you see in your head when you read Breathless. If you're like me, there are certain celebrities that you try to place as the faces of your favorite characters. So, with that in mind, who stars in the movie of Breathless that plays in your head when you read?

I won't taint your vision with my own ideas, and certainly, some of my visions are constantly changing. One remains constant...the only one I will share with you...Frost. Moments after I first introduced her character, it dawned on me who I was describing, and to this day, I feel very strongly that one celebrity epitomizes her look--Katy Perry. That's it! That's all I will say, but I would love to hear who you see while you read.

For that matter, I would love to hear if there are any other characters from any books that you get a clear vision of in your head when you read. I can visualize every detail down to movie quality when I read scenes in books, with the exception of faces. I can read labels on cans, signs on doors, and all sorts of other details, but it's very rare for me to see a fully formed face. To get us started, though, there is one character that has a very distinct face as I read. I see Channing Tatum when I read about Patch in Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush Hush and Crescendo books. Don't know why, but he's who I see, and I'm not complaining!

Cheers,
HH

  1. I am alot like you when I read. I can see everything else except for the faces of the characters. I have found that I will have a certain image of him/her and then as I go along, that image will change a little. Unless I see the book made into a movie, then I see that person who played the character. For example, the image I had of Edward and Bella were not like Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, however now when I re-read the books,I see their faces. I just wanted to say that I LOVE Breathless and I can't wait for the next one!! You are a very talented author!!

  2. Hey Heather,

This being my second post probably makes it seem like I’m stalking your blog, which I kind of am. Haha I check every few days for an update on Wanderlust.

I just wanted to offer my opinions as far as imagining my favorite characters. I have to admit, I do tend to picture celebrities when working my way through a book. Although, I’ve noticed that the celebrities I picture may not always match the physical cues that the author has depicted. Instead it may be a personality trait that reminds me of an actor or a type of character that an actor is known to play. I think I, as well as other readers, do this because it’s easier to get a more vivid image of exactly what the character looks like instead of just relying on eye and hair color or complexion. It’s nice to be able to visualize the entire package so to speak.

When Chaseyn was introduced, I immediately began picturing the actor Jason Cook. Looking at him now, probably 30 years old or so and with exuberant amounts of facial hair, I wouldn’t correlate him with Chaseyn in the least. When he was in his early 20’s though, he played the part of a rebel with a heart of gold. I think he’s a good match with jet black hair, leather jacket and overall dreaminess on his résumé. haha

I just finished Hush, Hush and can’t wait to begin Crescendo. Every time I pictured Patch, James Lafferty came to mind. I have no idea why, he just repeatedly popped into my head until I gave up and let him play the role. Similarly, Tony Oller filled the shoes of Ben in Ivy Devlin’s novel “Low Red Moon”.

    Best Wishes,

    Meaghan

  3. I have just finished the book...in one day...and I can honestly say that the only character for me that I can picture in my head as of this moment is a young Amy Adams as Lia. I don't know why she keeps popping up in my head but she just seems like a Lia to me, stubborn, but at the same time completely in the moment and able to give herself over the tears when they threaten. I'm going to have to think on this some more about Chaseyn.

  4. To much like Edward and Jacob. Hard with the possibilties of two loves let alone a perverted father thrown into the mix. I really enjoyed "Breathless"

  5. I hear what you're saying sabl54, and I love your perspective on Alexei. I never thought of him that way before, but you're right. That's exactly what he is!

  6. Young Amy Adams for Lia...interesting take. I like it. She's not at all what I had in mind, but when I think of movies like Leap Year, I can totally see where you're coming from. Headstrong yet feminine all at the same time!

  7. Hi Meaghan,

I love that you're checking in and engaging in ongoing conversation--it's exactly what I was hoping for when I started the blog. What do you think of the latest Wanderlust sneak peak? I'm planning to have the full book out next months, so hopefully I won't keep you waiting too much longer.

I love hearing about who you see when you read. It sounds like you put as much thought into it as I do. And, it's incredibly interesting to me to see just how different people's visions can be. Your vision of Patch, for example, is a stark contrast to my own. But, the beautiful thing about it is that neither of them are wrong. He can be whomever we want him to. I find that fascinating--not to mention liberating!

  8. Hey kdc,

I think it's a blessing in disguise that we can't see faces. That way, when our opinion of attractive changes, we have the ability to form a new "blurred" vision. Sometimes, though, I want so bad to see something more. I'll squint my eyes (in my mind anyway) and try to come up with something...usually, it's useless.

I will say that Rob Pattinson is not at all who I had in mind for Edward--not that I had anyone in particulra in mind. I had pictured Edward a tad bit older, but I couldn't put an exact face on him. I mean, I knew he was physically 17, but I still thought he would appear a little more aged by his experience. However, now there is no way I could picture him as anyone else.

  9. I just finished breatless...and I am hooked am impressed. I too have been stalking your blog through the whole book as well. I think if I was gonna pick someone for chaysen is zach effron and for balthazar (based on the little I read) colin ferrel. He's kinda scruffy and sexy. As far as lia I would have to say I am at a loss...I have a hard time putting a face with her!

  10. I think of Lia as some up and coming new star and this will be her great role! Young but poised. I was reading this book not really knowing what it was about. I like to do that randomly pick books without reading anything about them and just seeing wehre it goes, anyways I thought it was just wonderful when I realized what your book was about. My husband laughed because I was saying how I was worn out on vampire books, but yours was very refreshing. My favorite was the best friend in it all and I hope she keeps a level head and doesn't cross her or ditch her just because of a boy. I also hope that Eli will win out in the end something about the boy next door for me! Anyways just wanted to say I couldn't put your book down and was exhausted at work because I stayed up in the wee hours reading. I can't wait for the next one and I don't care if it has typos I can't spell myself so I would never notice I just want the story to go on! Eagerly waiting and appreciate the hard work you are doing so we don't have to wait much longer.

  11. @Amanda-I love Colin ferrel for Balthazar. I had considered him for Alexei for a while but he was a tad too young. Balty is much more suited to him. Admittedly, though, Joe Manganiello is who I see for him!

@Rebecca-I completely agree with Lia being a young, up-and-coming actress. She needs to be exactly as you described -- poised but still young. I'm so glad you liked the book despite it being a vampire romance. If you're looking for something new, can I recommend The Grace Series by S.L. Naeole or Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush Hush. I'm on a bit of an angel kick right now having gone through most of the vampire books!

    Warmly,
    HH
